Dark Elves

There are very few who even know of the existence of dark-skinned elves, and fewer still who know any relevant facts about their shadowy society and mysterious goals. A few essential facts have come to light, however:

  • A normal elf (of any sub-race or type) can become a dark elf after being overcome by extraordinarily powerful negative emotions (despair, rage, etc.). This does not always happen, and the exact reasons why one elf may be affected while another is not remains a mystery to even the dark elves themselves. The act of falling to these negative emotions is known as the Dark Fate, or in elvish, firokash.
  • It is rumored that the first dark elves were not firokash, but instead came from somewhere else. The truth behind this rumor is unknown.
  • It appears that the ancient mage Eldarnial, a highly respected elven historical figure, succumbed to the Dark Fate and killed his wife. The dark elves sometimes refer to their leader as the High Archmage, who may or may not be Eldarnial. If they are one and the same, than Eldarnial has found some method of immortality.
  • One faction of the dark elves, a group of druids who call themselves the Winter Council (and have connections to dark druidic cults across Golarion) believe that they should remake the surface world in the image of the Darklands, blacking out the sun and spreading fungus across the world. That this would kill roughly 90% of surface life doesn’t bother them in the slightest.
  • Another faction, the Void Seekers, plan to make alliances with dark forces in order to leave Golarion behind and take on a new life in the Dark Tapestry. They are prepared to sacrifice much to achieve their goals, and see nothing wrong with the idea of destroying this world in order to obtain what they see as their ‘freedom’.
  • The dark elves are not immortal, like their surface relations are, and their birth rate is terrifying low. Although they are loathe to admit it, their race is slowly dying. This does not prevent them from fighting amongst themselves, especially their leaders and noble families.
