Legacy of the Forlorn
This device is shaped like a cross between a wand and a gun, with a handle shaped to direct the beam and a small stud to activate it. The device can project a stream of energy as directed by the user. After doing so, it must recharge it’s energy cells from the ambient power in the area, and while it is recharging it cannot be used. It is very old and has seen quite a bit of wear and tear, and unfortunately no one knows how to repair it. These devices are typically highly coveted, although once their stores of energy are depleted they are discarded as being worthless.
As a free action, the user can choose one of three settings. The first setting projects a short range beam of heat energy very rapidly, allowing two beams to be projected in quick succession. The beams have a range of 45 ft. The user makes a ranged touch attack for each beam against thier target, and if successful the target takes 4d6 fire damage per beam that hits. After firing these two beams, the device must recharge its energy for 1d3 rounds.
The second setting projects a stream of ionized particles that extend outward 120 ft from the device. These particles attract similar particles in the area and draw them in close to one another in a line. After the milliseconds it takes for the initial particle to reach it’s destination and line up the stream behind it, the device then sends a powerful charge down the line, resulting in a fantastic electrical display. Creatures in the path of the line take 9d6 electrical damage, although a DC 19 Ref save will halve the damage. After using this effect, the item must recharge for 1d4+1 rounds.
The final setting projects a specialized wave of energy that affects matter at a subatomic level a great distance from the user. This is ideal, because the wave collapses a pair of atoms into each other at the targeted location, resulting in a large explosion. The user chooses a space up to 760 ft away for the explosion, and all the creatures within that area must make a DC 19 Ref save or take 9d6 points of fire damage. After using this effect, the item must recharge for 1d4+1 rounds.
